Fight or Flight

In the face of urbanization, Colorado is losing its grassland raptor species at an alarming rate, primarily due to the loss of shortgrass prairie.

The majority of the breeding and hunting grounds of these grassland raptors have disappeared as the state continues to develop over this critical grassland habitat, and over time, more urban adapted raptors have flocked to the area, putting additional stress on grassland raptors.

Boulder's grassland raptors now face the ultimate test of survival, as they are forced to not only navigate land that no longer suits their needs but, compete with an influx of new predators that thrive in human-altered ecosystems.
